Beautiful People: Parental Edition: Rouyn (Starbloods)

It's time for this month's Beautiful People! Yay! This is a link-up hosted by Paperfury and Further Up and Further In where you answer questions about your characters. I participated in Beautiful People for the last three years every month. Pretty crazy. XD This link-up has been just so helpful with character development.

Immediately, when I saw the theme for this month's questions, I knew I had to do Rouyn. He's my main character from my high fantasy series Starbloods and he has an interesting relationship with his parents. If you'd like to participate in this link-up yourself, check out either Paperfury or Further Up and Further In to see how. Here we go!

1.) Overall, how good is their relationship with their parents?

Rouyn has a good relationship with his parents. He's not extremely close to them because he's only known them in person for a short time and kept in contact with them with letters.

2.) Do they know both their biological parents? If not, how do they cope with this loss/absence and how has it affected their life?

Yes, he does now, but he hadn't seen them since he was a baby until recently. He struggled with not being able to see them for a long time and dreamed for the day he'd finally be able to meet his biological family.

3.) How did their parents meet?

His parents are the King and Queen of Calsidor. They met while on a social hunt together.

4.) How would they feel if they were told “you’re turning out like your parent(s)”?
Rouyn strives to be like his parents. He idolizes them.

5.) What were your character’s parents doing when they were your character’s age?
Rouyn's father was training on how to be a good king. He was a very responsible young man. Rouyn's mother was more rebellious and liked to steal away from her noble house to go riding or just take a walk in the woods near her hold in the Southern province.

6.) Is there something they adamantly disagree on?
Nothing particularly. Maybe Rouyn is a little more flexible with tainted magic than his parents'.

7.) What did the parent(s) find hardest about raising your character?
Not being able to be there for him. They kept him hidden during his childhood in fear he would be killed.

8.) What’s their most vivid memory with their parental figure(s)?
Rouyn only met his parents in person recently, so most of his memories are vivid, but one fond memory of Rouyn's is his father showing him how to combine his sword skills with his magical abilities.

9.) What was your character like as a baby/toddler?
Rouyn didn't like clothes and he was a very happy and curious child.

10.) Why and how did the parents choose your character’s name?
Rouyn means "lion" in their language, so they chose that name for him hoping he would have the strength of a lion.

What do you think of Rouyn? Did you participate in the Beautiful People? Are you planning to? If so let me see your posts in the comments! Thanks for reading!
